Walt, I really appreciate you, as a local shop owner, taking the time to stay open when I got there just after closing and taking the time to help me in my quest for the last four Harry Potter books. Your question made sense, "Are you looking for anything in particular?" Staying open for a browser that may not even purchase something would have been super kind but I understand it would not make much sense. Who knows how long they would hold you up after you had been there all day. But if it was something particular you could help them find and maybe get a last minute sale for what would be a win/win. After leaving work I felt I would get lucky and because you were willing to ask me what you did I was able to complete my quest: you had the last four Harry Potter books! I would sincerely rather support a local owner even if it costs a bit more. After leaving your shop I did look the books up used on Amazon to compare and, by the way, purchasing from you saved me about $5 and I didn't have to wait. So I wanted to thank you for giving me your extra few minutes. I know I am not necessarily a "regular" to your store but I have enjoyed visiting there since the mid 90's and there are a lot of books from your place in my house! When I do start to consider buying a book, though, I think about your shop first. Honest! And my parents are upset if they come to town for a visit and don't get to go by. For what it is worth, I sincerely tell people that are from out of Lynchburg or are newly moved here or about you. I can't imagine any book enthusiast not loving your bookstore! I hope things pick up for you and Maggie! Either way, God is knowing and trustworthy. I pray you have a blessed year to come.

In light of writing an actual review, the following is something I emailed to the owner, Walt. It says what I would have to say about Bookshop on the Avenue so figured I would post that instead:

They're always very pleasant and helpful. Today I accidentally stayed past closing and they didn't mention it. I realized it myself and apologized, but he said itbwas no problem. Once, my daughtet lost her precious bear in their store. I called them and they searched in order to find it for me. I recommend them 100%.

Great selection and really fun atmosphere. They are always friendly and helpful.

This is a great store. The staff is friendly and helpfull. They have a great selection and even though the books are “used” they are like new. If you’re in the Lynchburg area and are a reader or know a reader go to The Bookshop. The video selection is impressive also.

A lot of books, but not open to every kind of reader. Books are cheap, but selling books is a rip off. I brought in a ton of books mostly romance and they weren't accepted. That was fine but what was not romance was still not even looked at and out of a number that was a good buy in great condition, they passed over like it had a disease. While I waited I went down stairs to see how likely I was to sell my books due to how many copies they already had. It was looking good till I saw they had only chosen 4 books. Left disappointed.
